Embellishing a Child's Room on Limited Funds

Redecorating a child's room does not need to be an expensive proposition. In fact, children often enjoy decorating their bedrooms with the simplest of things, particularly if they can help. Including your child in the designing process can be a wonderful way to let them explore their own creative skills, plus it can help give them a great sense of pride in the final results. If the plan is to redecorate your kid's room, then you might want to follow the hints which follow to gain some inspiration.

Deciding on a Fun Look

Little kids especially like decorating their bedroom with a certain theme. They may like a specific cartoon character, a creative hobby or activity they like, or perhaps a creature they love. Decorating a child's bedroom using a theme can usually produce great final results. If you use a theme then it will be simpler to make the decor of the room match because you will then have an inspiration and guidelines for what you want. However, you don't want to go crazy with your special theme. For example, if your child chooses a cartoon character, resist the desire to buy too many themed bedroom accessories. Less is often more when it comes to decorating a child's room with a theme. Select just a few key elements that have a theme, like a cute themed bedspread, some extras for the bedroom, and some curtains for the windows. The next item on the list is to find the other furnishings for the room in colors which go with the theme you have picked. This strategy will keep the room from looking too busy and will also cost less money in the end. Kids who are older will often choose a more simple strategy for decoration like decorating with a few of their favorite colors.

Adornments for the Room's Walls

No bedroom is finished without a few interesting wall accessories. Some accessories you choose might not only be decorative but also helpful, like some cute wall hooks or an interesting colored shelf. You may also decorate affordably using picture frames to display some of the art they have created, or photographs they really like, or posters that make them smile. You can additionally paint the walls with a brush, use a decal, or even use a stencil to embellish nicely while still saving money. You can even cover one whole wall using black chalkboard paint to produce a nice big art area for your kid to have fun with. When the wall has been brushed with paint and has dried, simply give your child a big box of colored chalk, and allow them to decorate the wall on their own.

Hobbies and Collections as Room Decor

Why don't you use a favorite hobby or activity of your kid as an inspiration for decorating their bedroom? Not only can this decorating strategy be a lot of fun, it can also be a good way to get hobbies and collections out of drawers and exhibited where they can be viewed and enjoyed. As one example, if sports card collecting is a hobby your child loves, you can arrange them in a pattern in a few picture frames to decorate the walls with. Or you might display a group of their favorite stuffed animals on a shelf, rather than keeping them stored in a toy bin.
