Volagi Liscio means "smooth" in Italian and is a great Bike

By Mary Ann San Bruno

Last month the co-founder coming from a new bike manufacturer visited our shop. The bike they presented was attractive as well as its design would be a bit out of the box. The goal in the Volagi bike will be to give the recreational rider who likes long rides probably the most comfortable bike available on the market, but with the geometry is made to handle quickly just like a race bike. Volagi Liscio certainly features a "whoa" factor, having its Wishbone frame and Avid's mechanical disc brakes.

The beefy downtube and chainstays offer lots of stiffness for power transfer. Volagi's unique split seat stays (Wishbone) permit more flex both in the seat stays and it also greatly softens the ride. That doesn't signify the bike is whippy, however. . Those stays plus the fork also allows sufficient width to permit the rider to run wider tires, as much as 28c.

Disc brakes offer consistent braking under all conditions, better safety and control, better stopping power, less hand fatigue, less maintenance, they're more economical, easy to adjust, won't damage your expensive carbon rims, will stop you even with broken wheels, you can use wider tires and/or fenders without worrying about caliper clearance and it makes changing a flat easier.

Current race bikes can provide the performance, destroy you on rides lasting 2-3 hundred miles and up. An advantage of these bikes, beyond the claimed better braking and comfort, is that no parts are proprietary to make it work. When hydraulic disc brakes for road bikes appear, that is certainly inevitable, you'll have the capacity to upgrade (though depending on how the internal cabling is run, you might have to run the house down the frame). That, and you can now slap fenders to the frame using the built-in mounts and ride all throughout the winter. Wide 25mm rims enable you to throw some 'cross or winter commuter tires on.

Volagi, is founded by two former Specialized Bikes employees. Robert Choi was the founding father of VistalLite and once Bell Sports purchased VistalLite, he took over as head of marketing and product development for Blackburn, Rhode Gear and VistalLite. He then worked at CamelBak for several years developing many break-through products for CamelBak.

Volagi's Demo Truck, in July, came to San Diego and El Camino Bike Shop for a week of demo riding. People were checking out and riding the Volagi for 6 days. At the end of the Demo week over 30 people had ridden the bike and 3 people had put in an order for the bike. As one happy new Volagi customer said "I was looking for something different. I trust the guys at El Camino Bike Shop. They showed me the Volagi Lisco. One test ride and I was sold."
